Superando Barbie, Oppenheimer foi o grande vencedor da 29ª edição do Critics Choice Awards, com oito prêmios, incluindo de Melhor Filme e Melhor Ator Coadjuvante. Mas um dos destaques da noite foi mesmo o discurso de America Ferreira, vencedora do prêmio SeeHer– uma homenagem a mulheres que “advogam por igualdade de gênero, retratam personagens com autenticidade, desafiam estereótipos e empurram os limites do que é permitido dentro da indústria”.

O monólogo inspirador de America para Barbie viralizou nos últimos meses e tem sido referenciado com carinho, orgulho e reconhecimento por mulheres ao redor do mundo. No discurso de agradecimento do prêmio, que foi entregue a ela por Margot Robbie, a atriz americana filha de pais hondurenhos, comentou sobre a importância da representatividade e como é emocionante poder estar em um lugar que, na infância, parecia impossível – como sonhar com a televisão se não enxerga ninguém como você nas telas? 

“Parecia impossível que qualquer pessoa pudesse ter uma carreira interpretando personagens latinos, mas por conta dos roteiristas, diretores, produtores e executivos que eram ousados o suficiente para reescrever histórias desatualizadas e superar os preconceitos. E eu e as minhas colegas latinas fomos abençoadas em dar a vida às mulheres corajosas e fantásticas”, pontua America. 

A atriz, conhecida também por seus papéis em Betty, A Feia e em Quatro Amigas e um Jeans Viajante, reforçou o agradecimento a Margot Robbie e Greta Gerwig, produtora e diretora de Barbie, respectivamente, por terem confiado no seu trabalho e possibilitado que ela pudesse realizar seu sonho e “ver pessoas como eu nas telas, como seres humanos plenos”. 

“Eu também sei que eu não estaria aqui hoje sem a Margot Robbie e a Greta Gerwig. Margot, você viu o valor de Barbie, uma ideia inteiramente feminina que teria sido descartada por ser ‘muito feminino’. Você teve a visão de levar isso adiante, muito obrigada por dar Barbie de presente para o mundo. Greta, obrigada por provar, através do seu talento como cineasta, que nós não temos dificuldade em atingir a excelência nas bilheterias e a excelência cinematográfica com trabalho. Contar histórias de mulher não diminui o seu poder, na verdade isso o expande. Você e seu talento inspira a todas nós e obrigada por me pedir para interpretar a Glória”, finaliza America.

Das 18 indicações, Barbie levou 6 prêmios para casa, incluindo o de Melhor Música Original com I’m Just Ken – o que proporcionou um dos grandes memes da noite. Concorrendo com grandes nomes como Dua Lipa e Billie Eilish, que já havia ganhado o Globo de Ouro na mesma categoria, a vitória da música de Ryan Gosling surpreendeu o ator, que reagiu de forma incrédula. A surpresa do ator foi tanta – visível em sua reação – que ele nem subiu ao palco para agradecer, deixando a tarefa para o criador da canção, Mark Roson. A expressão de Ryan viralizou nas redes e internautas não param de o comparar com o Ken, seu personagem em Barbie.
